The End Is Near...

The end is near…

Hi my name is Joe Greco and I am not-so-secretly checking out my wife’s Facebook page to see what people are up to.

Yes. Its true. I have to come clean about this. If I keep it bottled up inside I fear I may one day crack and end up with one of my own pages with status updates like….

“Joe Greco is so bummed tomorrow is Monday!”

“Joe Greco is psyched its Friday”

“Joe Greco is having writer’s block. Ugh!”

Or just as worse I may have to make comments about other people’s posts like…

“OMG congratulations on your little girl. She’s soooo precious! I just wanna squeeze her!”

“I’m so jealous!! Looks like you guys had SO much fun!”

Now do you realize how dire a situation this could become? God forbid I didn’t take this opportunity to talk about this. I’m thankful its not too late to come clean! This desire and societal pressure is beginning to build up inside me like an Icelandic volcano.

One of my loyal readers succumbed to the pressures that is Facebook. It was a shocking announcement from a guy I always thought would steer clear of all things "social networking." It might not have been necessary had he had a blog of his own at the time. He collapsed under the pressure and, quite frankly, as I am now learning its hard to blame the kid.

Facebook pressure is building up steam. I can hear it coming around the bend and chugging along. My only fear is that it comes to a stop and I hear the “Aaaaall aboooard!”

“Joe Greco is finished with his new blog! Can’t wait to post it!!”

Who Is That Hideous Person Anyway?

We’ve all attended weddings in our life. Whether it be a fanciful affair with several hundred people or an “intimate” gathering with, say, 100 people. The best part about going to weddings is the chance to people watch. At least in my overly-opinionated-opinion it is. How often do you get a chance to have a formal get together with hundreds of people you don’t know? Even better if you are single but even us married folk can still people watch.

Call me what you will but I enjoy people watching because I want to see what people decide to wear. Has the fool sitting across from me decided to wear a ridiculous tie and if so what in the hell was he thinking. Has his ugly date decided that since this was not a “Black Tie” wedding she has the right to show off way too much leg in that body hugging shirt she calls a dress? And this brings me to my rant…

Who is that hideous person and why has she decided that dressing like a hooker is the right move for a wedding?

There always seems to be that one chick strutting around a wedding like it was 1973 and she’s strolling down 42nd St. I don’t get it. Especially cause this broad doesn’t even belong in the outfit in the first place. It can be one thing if she was good looking but this person never is! The problem is that you never quite know who the person is. Are they a close friend of the wedding party? A distant cousin from Tennessee, who noone cares about anyway, who thinks this is fashion? It always makes it tricky since you don’t want to offend a family member. Have to tread lightly when/if you decide to make comments during cocktail hour.

This is just another random observation on my part. I know you all agree with me and can relate. You just never thought about putting it down on paper. Or in this case a blog.

Short and to the point.

Bibles and Hotel Rooms – Of Course!

This has been on my mind for quite some time now. I don’t understand the whole deal with hotels having to have a copy of the bible in every room. I’m sorry but it doesn’t make any sense.

How come this doesn’t get any play? You never hear about it. I’m surprised people other than the super religious have never griped about it. Do I really care that there is a bible in my nightstand when I check in to my room? No I don’t. It doesn’t affect me and quite frankly I never open the drawer anyway. Alas, when I do open the drawer and I see the bible it does bother me. Not because I’m an atheist. But because it’s just silly.

First of all, is this hotel only catering to Christians? What about the other religions of the people that stay in this room? I guess they’re getting the shaft. And guaranteed that if they complained they could get some kind’ve money out’ve it. Jews, Muslims, etc. make note!

Secondly, I’m sorry but if you are that religious where you would actually read the bible on your vacation or on your business trip then you should probably pack the damn bible in the first place. Am I wrong?

Thirdly, it is my feeling that if you want a bible in your room, or any form of religious material, it should come as part of a special request. Call ahead and request one. In this case all hotels would be equipped with all forms of religious reading material. Now, the next time you are traveling and have a special request for a crib or a fridge you can also ask for your copy of the King James Bible! It’s like killing 2 birds with one stone….which coincidently is probably a religious proverb or something!

Finally, what’s with catering to religions? Being an atheist, you can assume where I'm coming from. However, even if I were religious, I would question society's obsession with religion. How about putting a form of reading material that is more general on the nightstand instead? Or a Travel magazine since you’re most likely traveling. Or what about a classic literary novel - War and Peace, Moby Dick, or Shakespeare? I know no one would read them but that’s not the point. They’ll probably get more play then the bible anyway!

I just don’t understand the unwritten rule (heck, it might even be written for all I know) of there always being a bible in every hotel room. It just doesn’t make sense to me.

I hope anyone religious reading this doesn’t take it offensive since it’s a) not offensive and b) is not intended to be.
